Hardbound. This is the first of the 2nd series of Supplements to Volume 4 and it deals principally with the chemistry of monocyclic ring systems containing three to five atoms. It should be noted, however, that the chemistry of pyrroles and indoles is so diverse that aspects of these subjects require further attention and will be found in the chapters which survey the chemistry of certain alkaloids, porphyrins and dyestuffs. These will appear in Volume 4B (following the pattern established in the 2nd Edition.
In order to do justice to the new chemistry which has emerged since publication of the 1st Supplement (1984), it was necessary to subdivide Chapter 1. Originally this embraced both three- and four-membered heterocyclic rings, now it is split into seven subchapters 1a-g. This allowed individual authors to concentrate on single subject areas, thereby lightening the task for a single author.
The remaining chapters are organised as in the previous Su
1996 This new Volume of "Rodd" continues to be a major service to organic chemistry... The chapters are uniformly well written...they should be standard component of any good organic chemical library. -- Philip D. Magnus, Journal of the Americal Chemical Society
1998 This second supplement volume to the second edition of Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds updates reviews of three-, four-, and five–membered heterocycles published in a first supplement in 1984... Each chapter is a concise, readable, and informative review. Key literature citations and important reviews are provided to guide the reader to additional information on each topic. A comprehensive subject index for the entire volume is included. Organic and medicinal chemists interested in the properties, synthesis, and reactions of heterocyclic compounds should derive considerable benefit from consulting this volume. Library access to this supplement together with the complete series of Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds is highly recommended. -- Arnold Martin, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry
