First edition. 8vo. Arnold Bennett (1867-1931) began writing full-time in 1900 after publishing his first novel, A Man from the North, in 1898. He is best known today for his novel The Old Wives' Tale, published in 1908. Bennett served as the director of propaganda for France at the Ministry of Information during World War I. He was later offered a knighthood for his service, which he declined. Sequel to Clayhanger, this book runs chronologically parallel to it and follows Hilda's coming-of-age story. Original pblisher's blue cloth with gilt embossed spine and front cover. Faded spine, else very good. Seller Inventory # 312111
