This is a first edition of this scarce, early historical work. The original covers/boards have been removed and replaced with a modern brown cloth covered boards with gilt lettering to spine. Regrettably the majority of the illustrative plates have been removed, leaving only the frontis plate and fold out plan of the town of Berwick. Page edges are hand cut and browning with a little spotting throughout. As such, the book becomes a reading copy only. 601 pages, plus 50 page appendix 'The Charter of Berwick Upon Tweed'.
