First edition, first impression. 144pp, with numerous line drawings in text. Green cloth-covered boards with black decoration and lettering. 12mo. Cloth a little tired, gently rubbed at corners and spine ends. Text block edges a little dust darkened. Previous owner's details neatly inked on the front free endpaper. Hint of toning to endpapers else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original matte dust jacket, price clipped, worn, heavily rubbed on edges and joints with minor loss at the base of the spine and some visible shelf wear on rear panel. The second of Horstmann's two volume history of building, covering the history of building from the early 19th century to the end of the second world war. Designed for building students and apprentices, the emphasis is on the causes and effects of developments, with successive changes traced to their origins in technical improvements, the introduction of new materials or the social and political conditions prevailing.
