Odd volume. Volume 1 only. 427pp. Octavo [24 cm] 3/4 brown leather with brown pebbled cloth over boards. Rubbed along the edges and joints. Large tear in leather at foot of spine. "Mercantile Library Association, of Baltimore" label on front pastedown. Rear free endpaper torn out. Notes in neat pencil on front flyleaf and minor markings in pencil very occasionally in the text. Previous owner's blindstamp on title page and preliminary pages. Short contemporary numerical notation on title page. Edward Thomas Schultz (1827-1913) became Senior Grand Warden of Maryland in 1884. He was engaged in this authoritative work, "History of Freemasonry in Maryland," from 1880 to 1887. Presumed first edition (no additional printings listed).
