Fifth volume of the author's six volume history of Greece, which was published from 1851-1861. xii, pp.367 . Original brown cloth boards. Title on the spine differs from title page - "History of Greece MCCCLIII To MDCCCXXI". The preface states that "This volume concludes the History of Greece Under Foreign Domination. I have divided the long records of Hellenic servitude, which embrace nearly two thousand years, into six periods, each offering a distinct phase of Greek history". At first this work reeceived little recognition but it came to be universally admired and in particuler in Gemany. It has been reprinted several times. Scarce first edition Original brown cloth. Contemporary signature to fep, Top of cloth spine bruised and snagged, otherwise VG. Seller Inventory # 3513
