The first edition of this detailed illustrated history of the Prince Consort's Own Rifle Brigade from their formation. First edition. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and twenty colour plates or plans. Collated complete. A history of The Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) was an infantry rifle regiment of the British Army formed in January 1800 as the "Experimental Corps of Riflemen" to provide sharpshooters, scouts, and skirmishers. soon renamed the "Rifle Corps". An important military history, this work provides details of various campaigns as the 95th Regiment, from the South American expedition, the battles across the Baltic from 1807 to 1808, the Peninsular War, and the Waterloo campaign, As well as mid-nineteenth century campaigns as the Rifle Brigade, including the Battle of Alma, the Battle of Inkerman, and the Siege of Sevastopol, with eight members of the regiment being awarded the Victoria Cross during the Crimean War. Written by Sir William Henry Cope of Hanwell, an English officer of the Rifle Brigade and a minor canon of St. Peter"s, Westminster from 1842-1853. Bound in modern cloth. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound with the frontispiece, title and pages i to viii detached but present. Pages 1/2 are also detached but present. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot, handling mark, or pencil mark. Library ink stamps across the title page and front endpaper. Good Only. Seller Inventory # 981T2
