two volumes xx- 503pp; xv-(i) -, 528pp 4 engraved plates containing numerous portraits. taken from a series of medals in the possession of the Rev W M Tooke. Contemporary ownership name to upper blank margin of the title pages of Tho. Fisher R.N, bookplate of Lilian McNeil to pate downs. The contents clean and tight some spotting to the blank verso of the plates. Bound in a half tan calf over marbled paper covered boards with black title labels, light rubbing to the heads of the spines and edges 3.5 cm crack to upper front edge of the spine of volume two, the bindings tight Tooke served as chaplain to the English church at St. Petersburg from 1774 to 1792. While in Russia he researched and collected the vast amount of material which he later used in the present history and his View Of The Russian Empire.
