Title Page + blank + xviii + 911 pages (just lacks the 5 illustrated pages). Original full leather binding, embossed leather, in poor /fair condition, front cover detached, rear partly, with loss of about a quarter of the leather, rubbed. Contents mostly good and tight, only noticed a couple of minor inscriptions, a couple of minor corner tip folds, a couple of tiny corner tip loss, some minor ageing to edges. Edward III was put on the throne aged 14 by his mother Isabella of France, and her lover Roger Mortimer who (with the help of the Isabella s brother, the King of France) invaded England and deposed King Edward II, 3 years later, aged 17 Edward III had Roger Mortimer ( who was ruling in Edwards name) killed, So he could rule, and proved himself very good and transformed the Kingdom and made it a formidable military power. After a successful campaign in Scotland he declared himself the rightful heir to the French throne in 1337. He invaded part of France and with victories at Crécy and Poitiers that led to the Treaty of Brétigny, in which England held a small part of France and Edward renounced his claim to the French throne. His father King Edward II was despised, and poor King, Edward III was well liked and a very successful King who reigned for 50 years. Please note this is a large tome, size approx 25 x 36cm & about 6cm thick.
