The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien, 1937 1st Edition 1st printing. In very good to near fine condition with no internal signatures inscriptions tears or faults. All original Binding tight, square (no spine lean) and with its original complete dust jacket, not price clipped. Both map end papers in place and unmarked. Clean internal pages, no foxing or marks to pages, endpapers, title, half title, copyright page etc. A wonderful collectors copy and rare. Housed in a clam shell case by Temple Bookbinders of Oxford.The book comes with 3 Tolkien photographs, one family photo from the late 1920's when the book was written for his children, also a family christmas card by John Suffield, Tolkien's maternal grandfather which is thought to have inspired laketown. All 1st printing issue points present as in Hammond and Anderson bibliography, Black and White frontispiece, Dodgeson with the "e" crossed out on the dust jacket rear fold in. The boards are bright as are the pages. Top edge faded green. The other page edges have slight foxing (spotting). The dust wrapper is complete and has had minor professional restoration as has the book to the spine head and tail. Slight foxing to the dust jacket as in the photos. Binding tight, no lose pages.
