True first British printing with original unclipped jacket (£8.95). Illustrated by J. S. Goodall. Jacket has patchy edge/shelf wear, the odd small mark/minor foxing, a couple of very small patches of loss, a few very small (approx. 5mms) tears, little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, little pushing/bumping to corners, mild foxing/odd small mark/little dustiness to reverse (white side) and a little creasing/rubbing to edges. Boards are near fine with a hint of pushing/bumping to corners, minor patchy fading and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Very minor spine lean. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Pages little tanned. Odd small mark/minor foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Top of pages slightly dusty. Synopsis

About the Author

Miss Read is the pseudonym of Mrs. Dora Saint, a former schoolteacher beloved for her novels of English rural life, especially those set in the fictional villages of Thrush Green and Fairacre. The first of these, Village School, was published in 1955, and Miss Read continued to write until her retirement in 1996. In the 1998, she was awarded an MBE, or Member of the Order of the British Empire, for her services to literature. She lives in Berkshire.
