About this Item
First Edition (SD). This book is quite rare by virtue of it being the only First Edition for sale anywhere on the Internet. It was the fifth of six of the Woodville Stories. And, quite remarkably, this book published in 1866 is in Very Good condition. You can see that first in the photographs of the covers. They are very clean and the gilt design and lettering on the spine is not faded, although the band at the bottom has a little rubbing that will require close inspection to make out the publisher's name. There are only a few tiny spots on the boards. There is a light amount of wear at the spine ends including small losses. There are also several pinpricks on both sides of the spine. There is rub-through at three of the four corners, but the six edges are free of wear. The interior of the book looks terrific. The end papers are not worn and not soiled. On the front free end paper there is an inscription to 'Ella Noble from Charlie, Christmas 1866'. There is no other writing anywhere in the book. Nor are there any markings. I saw only a few small spots of soiling. In fact, the pages look exceptional. They are bright. They don't have any darkening, they don't have any foxing, all pretty remarkable. And this book is very solidly bound, no cracks or spaces anywhere, tight pages, no issues. There are several illustrations, including the frontispiece, which are in very good condition. The frontispiece tissue guard has a few spots of soiling. Seller Inventory # 000367
