This book is a personal defense a the result of an impeachment attempt sitting Judge Emory Speer. Speer, from Savannah Georgia was a Republican in Democratic controlled Georgia . Considered a "misfit" by his critics. The attempt to impeach ultimately failed. From wikipedia: On August 26, 1913, Rep. Clayton offered a resolution, H.R. Res. 234, to investigate Judge Speer. The resolution was referred to the Rules Committee. However, following an objection from the floor, the resolution was held over for consideration until August 27, 1913, at which time it was amended and adopted.A Select Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee conducted the investigation. On October 2, 1914, after reviewing the Subcommittee's findings, the Judiciary Committee submitted a report, to the House. The report was referred to the House Calendar. The report, which recommended no further action be taken against Judge Speer, was considered and agreed to by the House on October 21. Derenne (Georgia catalog) Vol. III page 1128.
