A remarkably well preserved copy of one of Russell's many contributions to freedom of thought and the spread of knowledge - the book is intended for the general reader, not for professional philosophers; two years after its publication Russell was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The text block is square and tightly bound with minimal spotting on the fore-edge and none at all on the top and bottom edges. The light green stain on the top edge is still present albeit somewhat faded. Internally the pages are spotless apart from a small, neatly pencilled previous resale price on the top right-hand corner of the ffep. The green cloth bound boards and gilt lettering are in excellent condition and the edges and corners are all sharp. The priced dust jacket (18s. net) is undamaged apart from some chipping on the top edge of the spine panel and the top corner of the front fold-in crease. The colours of the dj are strong and clear - surprising and impressive for a book of this age (74 years !). See five photos of this book.
