Bears a large, dramatic autograph-style signature in dark marker on the front free endpaper; provenance unknown, unverified, sold as described. When Random House published this edition in 1930, they were so taken with Rockwell Kent's bold Art Deco woodcut-style illustrations that they left Melville's name off the covers entirely, billing the illustrator above the author on both the cloth and spine.
