Uncorrected proof of the first edition with publisher's slip tipped to title page. [ii], 394, pp. Bound in publisher's plain red wraps. Near Fine with slight lean and minor creasing to spine. In a scarce Near Fine pre-publication dust jacket, overhanging book by approx. 1/2", with light wear and toning and short repaired tear and faint dampstain to upper edge of front panel. Typed correction, of either spelling or word choice, tipped over blurb on rear panel. The uncommon advance copy of Tom Clancy's debut novel, the first appearance of CIA analyst Jack Ryan. Praised by President Reagan, the novel was a bestseller and inspired the 1990 film of the same name, a Cold War classic starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin.
