Colour dust wrapper has extremely minimal wear at spine ends and is in near fine condition except for a little grubbiness to the rear wrap containing publisher's ad of Van Der Post's other work. A novel with some autobiographical content about the author's time spent with the Norwegian whaling fleet stationed in South Africa in the 1920's. The book is also as much about the simmering divide between the races in South Africa as it is a sea story. Great characters in the story including a wise and salty sea captain, a hunter who trades in elephants for whales, a Zulu stoker, a cook who detests killing whales and of course the narrator, a poor Boer boy with a sharp eye.
