About this Item
Gift quality original 1910 issue horn blowing tutor is wonderfully preserved with lovely colors. Measures 6 5/8" x 4 3/8" in lightly curled deep red stiff card covers with sharp tips has a drawn hunting horn of brass and silver on the cover, titles/publisher in black text. There is a faint crease along the spine edge, negligible color loss at the head of the folded spine and a smidge of rubbing at the head of the upper staple. The 27pp text is crisp, clean & appears unread. There are no names, notes or underlining, but the two staples holding in the leaves and the paper laying under them show rust but continue to do their job well. In this volume we learn of the two types of hunting horns. The earlier ones had round shaped mouthpieces and the newer ones were Reed Horns. Many famous huntsmen of foxhounds, now no longer quite so sound of wind and limb as once they were, carry Reed Horns. They are commonly used by Masters of Beagles and foot Harriers, and sometimes of Otter-Hounds - the exigencies of whose sport frequently finds them "out of breath" at the very moment when it is most necessary to blow the horn distinctively. With the exception of the long-swelling note recommended in "Hints for Huntsmen" to be used "to call hounds away," every "measure" given in this book can be as well - or possibly better blown on a Reed Horn as on one of the ordinary pattern. A much sought addition for any sporting library and of proper size for a stocking stuffer. Seller Inventory # 47786
