Add to basket318pp. Hardcover. Copy #124 of 500 large-paper Medora edition. Original brown textured cloth, title stamped in gilt on front cover, gilt on spine. Frontispiece with tissue cover, complete with 25 full-page illustrations. Solid binding, solid hinges. Boards lightly rubbed with a small ink spot on rear, else near fine. Deckled page edges toned. Interior pages clean with minor scattered foxing. Bookplate of Fritz Reiss on inside front cover with light pencil markings on opposite free end paper.
Roosevelt recounts his time in the Dakotas near Medora where he invested in two ranches, ran cattle, and hunted. He left New York City seeking solace in the, at that time, "Western" open spaces after the tragic deaths of his young wife and his mother on the same day in February 1884.
