Julia Warde-Aldam 1857-1931), South Yorkshire estate owner. Born Julia Warde, she inherited Hooton Pagnell Hall, near Doncaster, in 1868. Drawing on a substantial income from coal-mining, she remodelled the Hall and restored the nearby Hooton Pagnell Church in line with her own High Church sympathies. During WWI she opened Hooton Pagnell Hall as a military hospital, with herself as commandant and matron. Hooten was sometimes spelt as 'Hutton', and the Hall itself had once been owned by the Hutton family. It seems likely that this is a collection of hymns (generally 19th-century, by hymnwriters such as Frances Ridley Havergal) sung in Hooton Pagnell Church, published by Julia Warde-Aldam near the beginning of WWI. They may otherwise have some connection to Henry Wollaston Hutton (b. 1835), Priest-Vicar of Lincoln Cathedral and an important editor of hymnals. In either case, this is a very rare volume indeed, not found in WorldCat or elsewhere online. ~Robust packaging. All UK orders trackable, others on request.
