About this Item
This is a collection of 17 issues published in 1966 (16) and 1965 (1) from arguably the most notable self-published journalist project of the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s -- the I.F. Stone Weekly. Stone was a leftist journalist of the World War II and Cold War era who became increasing unemployable in the McCarthyite 1950s. Stone responded by launching a four-page, self published periodical of keen investigative and critical reporting. He was particularly incisive in reporting on the Vietnam, international affairs and the foibles of government, Stone bird-dogged issues for his avid readers among the gatekeepers of the then all-powerful mainstream media. His work is an excellent study of the determination, quality and tactics needed to bring alternative voices and perspectives into a closed media environment lacking the access to audiences made available by the modern Internet. This lot includes 17 issues published between Dec., 20 1965 and Dec. 19, 1966. The lot includes #43 from 1965 (Vol. XII.) Issues from 1966, Vol. XII are #3, 10, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 27, 36, 38, 39, 40, 41. Generally in Very Good condition, with each issue stamped with the address of the original subscriber and each issue previous twice folded for mailing.
