[6], 152 pages, plus [10] plates including two photographs of breastfeeding techniques plus diagrams, etc. Original publisher's cloth over light boards, stamped in gilt. 19.5 x 12 cm. Several tiny spots to the spine, minor rubbing to extremities. Mild foxing to text leaves facing plates. Still, a very good copy. FIRST EDITION. "This series of articles, somewhat elaborated for book form, appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association from January to May, 1923." --preface. The subjects include feeding with breast, artificial, and cow's milk, as well as feeding issues, weaning, caloric and nutritional requirements, and more. Julius H. Hess (1876-1955) was an American physician and a pioneer in the field of neonatology and infant care. He was also the author of "Principles and Practice of Infant Feeding" (1919) and "Premature and Congenitally Diseased Infants" (1922).
