ix, [3], 98, [2] pages. Notes. Appendix. Decorative front cover. This is from the Communications and Society Program. In the summer of 2008, the Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program convened 28 leaders and experts from the ICT, financial, government, academic, and public polity sectors to better understand the implications of cloud computing, and where appropriate, to suggest policies for then betterment of society. This report by J.D. Lasica provides some background on the topic as it gives the reader the benefit of the considerable insights that emerged from the roundtable dialogue. Joseph Daniel "J.D." Lasica is an American entrepreneur, author, public speaker and journalist. He has co-founded several tech startups with a focus on artificial intelligence and has written several books about media and technology. In 2005 Lasica co-founded Ourmedia, one of the first grassroots video-hosting communities, with Marc Canter. He later founded Socialmediadotbiz, a consulting firm, and in 2009 launched Socialbritedotorg, a learning center for nonprofits. He was also admitted to the Intel Insiders, a group of technology experts who advised Intel on social media and emerging tech trends. His subsequent ventures included the Agile Travel Group, which launched Cruiseable, an AI-powered cruise discovery platform, as well as BingeBooks, a book discovery service backed by authors that uses artificial intelligence to provide recommendations. He also co-founded Authors A.I., a company offering AI manuscript analysis through its proprietary system Marlowe. The Aspen Institute is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1949 as the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., but also has a campus in Aspen, Colorado, its original home. Its stated mission is to "drive change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the greatest challenges of our time". The Aspen Institute’s work focuses on many sectors including business, education, communications, energy and environment, health, security and international affairs. Abstract: Identity—the very essence of who we are and how we interact with others— is in the middle of a period of extraordinary tumult. The Internet and a host of new communications technologies have transformed the concept of identity and redefined our relationships to businesses, governments and constantly churning networks of friends and peers. Growing numbers of digital natives now define themselves by their Web presence as well as their real-world presence. Indeed, they move seamlessly from their online to offline lives, and they expect to assert who they are on their own terms. Call it the audacity of self-identity. I am whatever I say I am.…
