Put simply, they are insects with chewing mouthparts or mandibles.There were a total of seven volumes in the series that look at Mandibulata. Written by John Francis Stephens, an entomologist, who is best known for this twelve volume series, which was published from 1828 to 1846. He also published the 'Manual of British Beetles'.The plates were drawn after drawings by C. M. Curtis and John Obadiah Westwood. In the original cloth binding. Externally, sound, the front board may detach with further handling, held with one cord only. Loss to the head of the spine. Some of the spine is lifting to the joints. Minor marks and discolouration to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the extremities. Discolouration to the spine. Minor spots to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot. Good Only.
