Impresario: The Zelzer Era, 1930-1990 (Systems and Control Engineering)

For over 50 years, Harry Zelzer was the czar of Chicago's concert world, bringing stars such as Mario Lanza, Judy Garland, Victor Borge, Grace Moore, Vladimir Horowitz, Nelson Eddy, Jascha Heifetz and Isaac Stern to perform in Chicago.

For forty-six years Sarah Zelzer was the right arm of Chicago's culture czar and the day-to-day supervisor of the Allied Arts Corporation. An accomplished pianist herself, Mrs. Zelzer made her own unique contribution to the Chicago music scene.

Born in Philadelphia, she came to Chicago as a young child. By the time she was twelve, she was already a professional teacher of piano. She met Harry Zelzer while she was teaching and pursuing her music studies. After his death, she oversaw the Allied Arts Corporation when it had merged with the Orchestral Association, and she went on to present her own series at the Auditorium Theatre for two seasons. She sits on the board of a number of charitable organizations.
