Gives advice on improving performance under sail, adding extra bunks, stowing nets, building tables, book racks, and lockers, increasing ventilation, and adding safety equipment
Reviews
Nicolson is famous for his thorough, pragmatic approach to boat building and preventive maintenance. This is not a reworking of his earlier book, Build Your Own Boat , but a detailed look at many major and minor repairs/improvements that boat owners can undertake to make their crafts more seaworthy and/or functional. Included are tips on improving performance by modifying sails, rigging, hulls; and information on fitting extra bunks or making the present ones more useful, on making a cockpit table, on installing ventilators, rigging ladders, etc. Nicolson's advice is cautious; he urges owners to take the extra time and expense to do the job correctly and in a way that enhances the beauty of the boat. A solid, worthwhile book for serious boat owners. Recommended for public libraries. John Kenny, San Francisco P.L.
