Written in both Scots and English, this is a scarce first edition of this poet's account of his family's emigration from Scotland to the New World. The scarce first edition of this poetry collection from Robert Dinsmoor. Dinsmoor's collection is celebrated for its representation of the poet and his ancestor's route from Scotland to Ireland to America, and the uncertainties faced in the New World.His only collection, this work examines how emigrants can make sense of their European past and American. The second edition, very scarce, was published over seventy years after the first.With the preface widely attributed to American poet John Greenleaf Whittier, and a glossary of the Scots words used in the poems to the rear.With a former owner's inscription, dated 1862, to the front free endpaper. In a quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards. A single letter of the original paper spine label remains. Large tear to cloth towards back strip tail, with losses to cloth at spine head and tail. Marks to boards, with bumping to board perimeters.
