Introduction by David Lloyd George. 8vo (23cm). In publisher's somewhat faded original dark maroon cloth, with gilt titles to spine. xxiii, 395. As portrayed in Wikipedia, Money, an Italian-born economist, moved to Britain in the 1890s, and later became a protégé of Lloyd George. Made his name as a politician, journalist and author and served as parliamentary private secretary to Lloyd George and was a Government minister in World War I. He played a key role in formulating the groundbreaking national insurance scheme introduced by Lloyd George in the National Insurance Act 1911, which laid the foundations of the modern welfare state. This book provides Money's detailed account of the scheme, with extensive statistical insight into the British labour economy of the time. Faint rubs to joints, spine ends, tips lightly bumped, still a very nice copy. Copy of Oxford academic Michael Hart, his name to flyleaf.
