About the Author

A former elementary teacher and high school teacher of English literature, Donyall D. Dickey is currently a Howard County, Maryland, middle school principal; a Johns Hopkins University graduate school instructor; an author; and sought-after educational consultant. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Loyola University where he earned a Master of Education in Administration & Supervision and is currently a doctoral candidate at George Washington University in Educational Leadership & Policy studies, researching student achievement and standards based assessments. Dickey s career is characterized by promoting unparalleled student achievement and school improvement. Each of the three schools where he has served as a school administrator has demonstrated record gains on state assessments. Most recently, he has led a previously underperforming middle school to unmatched gains on state and local assessments, transforming it into a model for instructional leadership for the region and the nation.
