Published in 1832, first published as An Introduction to the Natural System of Botany in 1830. In half green calf, with marble boards. Contains six copper plates to the rear, and numerous in-text wood engravings. Collated complete. A scholarly work aiming to educate readers on the latest information regarding the field, including chapters on plant organs, plant physiology and taxonomy. He is best known for his collection and knowledge of orchids, and his Theory and Practice of Horticulture is still considered one of the best books in the field. In half green calf, with marble boards. Externally, slight fading to calf and boards, and a couple of small spots to calf. The odd handling mark, with slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Marble end papers are bright and clean. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown.
