First American edition of a classic that has been reprinted many times. Green cloth covers with gilt lettering. Front hinge is sprung but binding is intact and square. Very light shelf wear for its age: corners slightly bumped and spine ends softened. Spine slightly faded. Pencil drawings of architectural features on inside cover and on both sides of first free end paper. Age tanning to inside covers and page edges.
