A complete two volume set of this monumental introduction to English Church Architecture, richly illustrated and in its first edition. James Anthony Leathart's copies, signed by him to the front free endpaper of both volume, dated 1945. Leathart was an electrical engineer and one of the founding members of the 610 Squadron Auxiliary Air Force.A complete two volume set of An Introduction to English Church Architecture from the Eleventh to the Sixteenth Century, in its first edition.These volumes are indented for students and those interested in mediaeval architecture who have little prior knowledge. The first volume explores Churches of Monks and Canons, requirements of Mediaeval Churches and walls and arches. The second volume explores doorways and porches, lighting, towers and spires.Both volumes are richly illustrated throughout the text with diagrams, photographs and illustrations. Both are in the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and some light marks to the boards. Previous owner inscription to both front free endpapers. Front hinge of volume one is starting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good Indeed.
