Featuring sections on the decline of education in Rome, the invasions of the Normans, new influences from the Middle East. and the effects of the crusades. This work is widely attributed to the poet, Charles Philpot. Philpot was part of Emmanuel College in Cambridge, where he won the Seatonian Prize for his poem, 'Faith: a vision'. With a bookplate for one 'Joseph Jones' to the front paste-down and another for one 'Peter M. Scott' to the front free endpaper. A-S16 In full calf binding. Externally, very smart with some rubbing to the edges. Fading to the spine. Light marks to the boards. Bookplate to the front paste-down and to the front free endpaper. Some offsetting to the edges of the free endpapers. A few marks to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound.
