An Introduction to Mythology

A very nice copy of the rare first edition of Spence's famous work describing the anthropological and comparative-religion theories of its day. Spence sought to show that myths were not merely stories but valuable evidence of how ancient people lived and what they believed. This is a very good copy. Pages are good: no inscriptions, no pen marking, no bookplates, all pages complete; some fox spotting though mostly confined to outer edge of some pages and to external text block. Green boards are excellent with silver gilt text bright and clear. Binding is first rate, nothing loose and no give. Dust jacket -rare in this edition- is complete, with just a little missing segment mostly at top of spine (see photos) and seems clipped. DJ has been laminated at some point in the past, though this has clearly done its job of protecting the cover since then. Spine is somewhat darkened. A very nice copy of what is a quite rare edition, especially with DJ present. Safely packaged and sent via Royal Mail Tracked.
