Large quarto. Red 3/4 leather over marbeled boards and extensive gilt designs on spine with titles and "Lond. 1815" at heel. All edges gilt, marbeled endpapers. Wide margin s on all pages. Wear to edges and corners, corners bumped. Slight wear to joints. Very light tanning to text plates but otherwise no foxing. viii [1], 164 p. w/ 9 hand colored plates in brights colors, an 2 additional plates uncolored of creatures in shells and the creatures without them. A lovely and well done introduction to the study of shelves by Brookes, more for the layman than the scientist.
