Publisherâ s original boards withcloth-covered spine, printed spine label; worn, spine with joints starting and some loss of cloth.First edition of a very scarce and important botanical work. The last copy of this book to appear at auction was in 1987. The genesis and history of this work is given in detail in Grausteinâ s Thomas Nuttall, Naturalist (pp. 228-30). Of special note are the plates; they are very early examples of American commercial lithography.With the possible exception of Asa Grey, Nuttall made more discoveries and described more new genera and species than any botanist of his time.
