First edition, first printing, of this first-hand account of the liberation of Italy during World War II. Deeply insightful and beautifully written, American journalist Richard Tregaskis's Invasion Diary covers "the story of the invasion of Sicily and southern Italy up to the temporary stalemate at Cassino" (New York Times). Embedded with the American forces, Tregaskis was able to get to know the men and their perspectives and to write about them with the insight of someone who had already experienced Guadalcanal. This is unquestionably one of the most readable books written during the war. Owner signature. Book fine, dust jacket near-fine with only light wear to extremities.
