He toured America in 1872 to refute the anti-Irish sentiments of the English historian Anthony Froude. Burke is referenced by James Joyce in "Dubliners" for his speaking ability. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First American Edition. Green cloth binding, ruled, and with decorative stamping in black, featuring an American stars and stripes shield with an Irish harp. Titled in gilt on the spine, and noted as the "Irish American Library." Clean text; frontis engraving of Daniel O'Connell; 336 pages including the extensive Appendix.
