Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. 1sr edition. A Near Fine copy in Very Good dust jacket, housed in a Good, publisher's slip case. Folio. Tan cloth with a plastic comb binding in black and white, illustrated dust jacket. The dj's spine is a little sunned/darkened, with a closed tear on the rear panel. The publisher's slipcase is soiled, with a few small splits at an opening. Contains 57 woodcuts, some hand-colored. The plates ae captioned in both English and Hebrew. The dj is now protected in a mylar sleeve. A Near Fine copy in Very Good dust jacket, in the scarce slipcase. *** Jacob Steinhardt (1887-1968)was a German-born Israeli painter and woodcut artist. He worked mainly in woodcuts depicting biblical and Jewish subjects. He participated in the Berlin Secession and founded the Pathetiker Group. He was a member of the Bezalel school group. In 1934, after the rise of the Nazi's, Steinhardt emigrated, and he opened an art school in Jerusalem. In 1948, he became Chairman of the Graphics Department at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
