First edition, published October, 1927 with 1927 on title page, in unclipped original dust jacket. Clean deep blue cloth boards with red-orange lettering on cover and spine, blind-stamped oval decoration on cover. Tiny bit of surface wear to upper spine corners, no fraying or fading. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Pages and edges are clean, with neatly pencilled name on front free endpaper (easily erasable). Clean text block edges, orange top-stained upper page edges. A few preliminary and end pages were opened a bit roughly - have a ragged outer margin. 347 pages. Clean dust jacket is not price clipped, has some very shallow chipping and one closed edge tear, small chip the size of dried pea on spine edge. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. A rare first edition of this title, even more so in a clean original dust jacket. Winner of the Atlantic Monthly prize of $10,000 for the most interesting novel of any kind. Author went on to write many spin-offs from this original novel about a young British couple who left India to purchase an estate of a thousand acres in the Canadian wilderness.
