Octavo, 5.2 x 8.4 in., pp. 32 + 2(Index), Printed by Barnard and Seltzer, Water Lane, Fleet Street. Illustrated wth engraving of Grant's Causeway and map of The Lakes of Killarney. Rebound in smooth black three-quarter calf with marble boards. Gilt title to spine. New endpapers. Text is unmarked. Very light, occasional foxing. Author is unnamed. The tone of the tome is of a sophisticated, worldly British gentleman visiting the Irish countryside and its poor, ignorant Irish population. The author offers a rather scathing vision of Ireland in the early 19th century. From p.5: "It would be difficult to convey an idea of the vice, filth, and wretchedness, in which the lower orders dwell, and seem to delight, everywhere in the village." From p. 9: "While we sat at dinner, a miserable object came to the window begging.
