This is the true first printing. The first printing is identified with the 1894 date, and the reverse of the title page is free from later printings. The binding is original. Title page and tissue present. 8vo, bound in original blue publishers cloth, blocked in gilt, gilt lettered to spine and decorated to upper board. Dark grey/green endpapers, booksellers label to lower pastedown. Collation: 212pp, with illustrations by J.L. Kipling, W.H. Drake and P. Frenzeny. Measuring approx 13.5cm by 19cm. Condition is good to poor dnd consistent with that book grade. Full Condition Description: Binding holding, with strong lean to upper board, cracked to both endpaper joints with mull exposed, general age wear and spine/corners frayed/rubbed/bumped, abraded to extremities, stained to upper board and with scuffing to cloth. Heavy looseness from use. Binding is cocked or leaning. Contents are holding though block shaken with cords on show to a few gutters, general spotting and foxing throughout, pp.81 torn to the lower margin [not affecting text], pp.144-pp.150 with a blue ink stain to lower margin, pp.209 strained to gutter with minor surface loss to inner edge [not affecting text]. White sticker with manuscript numbering to pastedown. Period ink ownership to half-title. Good to poor only. The condition is good to poor. Good is not a good book grade.
