Item description from seller

Bifolium (28cm); photo-illustrated wrappers; [4]pp; illus. Mild handling and toning to extremities, a few tiny tears; Very Good+. Pamphlet produced during the trial in Federal Court of 12 members of the National Committee of the Communist Party of the United States: William Z. Foster, Eugene Dennis, Henry Winston, John Williamson, Benjamin Davis, Bob Thompson, Gus Hall, Irving Potash, Jack Stachel, Carl Winter, John Gates, and Gil Green. The men were falsely accused of "conspiring to teach and advocate overthrow of the government by force" under the Smith Law. Contents draw attention to the plight of three men - John Gates (editor of The Daily Worker), Henry Winston (Secretary of the CPUSA), and Gus Hall (four-time presidential candidate and chairman of the CPUSA), who were jailed for refusing to be stoolpigeons for Judge Harold Medina. "Today, everyone.in this trial nows that naming a man as a Communist means that he will be persecuted. It means loss of his job, terrorizing of his family - in the South it may mean death!" Scarce; OCLC notes 2 holdings (Yale, Harvard).
