About this Item
With 36 b/w plates and one color frontispiece, one of 500 unnumbered copies. Text in French. French painter Jean Crotti (1878-1958) was initially influenced by Impressionism, then by Fauvism and Art Nouveau. Around 1910 he began to experiment with Orphism, an offshoot of Cubism, and a style that would be enhanced by his association in New York City with Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia. He was part of the 1925 Exposition International in Paris and the International Exhibition of Modern Art at the Brooklyn Museum in 1926 - 1927. Condition: Poor; covers toned, lightly soiled, and mostly detached. The text block signatures are mostly detached from one another, but clean and complete with only very light toning at edges not affecting images or margins. A good candidate for repair or rebinding. Ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles. This volume was a well-used reference copy in the gallery s reference library, hence the rough condition. Until its recent closure, the Stendahl Gallery was one of America's oldest continuously operating private art galleries. Art from the Stendahl collections found a home in The Louvre and many other major institutions throughout the world. Upon closing the gallery, the family donated a significant collection of photographs and documentation to the Getty Research Institute. Seller Inventory # k170712b

As collectors ourselves, we know that sometimes a book arrives that just isn't quite what we expected, even though it was accurately described. More InformationWe ship via U.S. Postal Service. Shipping costs are based on an average weight, including packaging, of 2 LB, or 1 KG. We don't charge extra if you are somewhat above that, but If your book is very heavy or special handling is required we may add an extra shipping charge. This usually occurs only for books being shipped via priority mail or internationally; the extra cost for shipping can make the difference in whether we make a profit or take a loss on the sale. We will always contact you first to get your approval for the extra charge. Sometimes shipping doesn't cost as much as we estimate -- if it's a negligible amount we just let it be but if it is substantial, we refund the excess shipping. We accumulate the smaller amounts and make an annual donation to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. If you prefer shipping via UPS, Fedex or DHL instead, contact us for a quote.
INSURANCE: Except for very rare or costly items, we do not insure our shipments beyond the $100 USPS already provides for priority mail shipments only. Because lost packages are so rare, the cost of insurance for less costly items is more than the acceptable risk -- especially given the hassle and paperwork of trying to collect the insurance. This is especially true for international shipments. If we feel insurance is appropriate, we will quote you the extra cost for adding it.
For truly rare items, we may substitute UPS, FedEx, or DHL for the added tracking and security they provide. Depending upon the item, we may absorb the extra cost or we may quote you a higher rate.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Our shipping rates are for the estimated cost of postage. For purchases of 150US or less AbeBooks will typically collect any necessary VAT when you make the purchase. For items over $150, International buyers may need to pay an additional Duty or VAT upon delivery. For oversized or very heavy books, it is sometimes impractical to ship internationally and we reserve the right to cancel the sale if necessary. We will always contact you before doing so.
