Octavo. Frontispiece portrait, 311 pages, index, bibliography and illustrated. "A fine, perceptive character study". The author deals with the emotional instability of Davis and his overly strict adherence to seniority. In the opening days of the war, he had Stonewall Jackson, Beauregarde and the Johnstons, later, they relied on Bragg, Pemberton and Hood which accelerated the decline of the Confederacy. One of the best on the complexities of Davis. A fine copy bound in black cloth, pictorial blue label pastedown lettered and decorated in black, endpapers are maps, blue paper pictorial spine label in a good blue-gray pictorial dust jacket lettered and decorated in black, spine darkened, chipped spine ends and corners and a few edge chips or tears. [CWB, II, 93].
