About the Author

Moses Rischin, A Ph.D. from Harvard University, is a professor of history at San Francisco State University. He is a former president of the Immigration History Society and the author and editor of numerous publications, including The Promised City: New York Jews, 1870-1914; The American Gospel of Success; and Immigration and the American Tradition.
