The book describes a model that has been well tested by nurses, multidisciplinary teams, faculty, and students. It is both a textbook students and a handbook for nurses in practice. Faculty members and staff development instructors can download a PDF of a free, 26-page instructor’s guide to use as a resource in teaching the JHNEBP Model. The instructor’s guide includes examples of course objectives, how to set up an EBP project for students, and educational strategies for health care organizations. About the Author: Robin P. Newhouse, PhD, RN, CNA, CNOR At the time this book was written, Dr. Newhouse was nurse researcher at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and assistant professor at The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, where she was dedicated to building evidence-based practice and research infrastructure and teaching Application of Research to Practice in the graduate program. She is now associate professor and assistant dean, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Nursing, where she continues her work in building nurse leaders with strong evidence-based practice skills.
Sandra L. Dearholt, MS, RN is the assistant director of nursing for the departments of neuroscience and psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is a member of The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) steering committee that developed and implemented the JHNEBP Model. Ms. Dearholt has an extensive background in the development of nursing standards of practice and care and has served in the capacity of coordinator of nursing practice for John Hopkins Nursing. She is currently a member of the Maryland Board of Nursing Practice Issues Committee.
Stephanie S. Poe, MScN, RN is the assistant director of nursing, clinical quality at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and holds a joint appointment with The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She has extensive experience working with nurse leaders and bedside nurses in developing and monitoring care standards to maintain high quality, safe patient care. Ms. Poe helped develop the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model and has taught and mentored project teams using the model and guidelines. She has published and presented on the topics of evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety. Ms. Poe s area of research focus is quality improvement, risk assessment, and application of clinical practice guidelines.
Linda C. Pugh, PhD, RNC, FAANis a professor of nursing at York College of Pennsylvania in York, Pennsylvania. She is also the director of EBP/nursing research at York Hospital. Dr. Pugh is the former director of the baccalaureate program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland. She has been an active part of the development and implementation of the JHNEBP Model, leading clinicians in advancing their practice through EBP projects. As a certified obstetric nurse, she has provided care for childbearing women for more than 30 years. The focus of her research is improving breastfeeding outcomes, particularly those of low-income women. Dr. Pugh has researched strategies to increase the exclusivity and duration of breastfeeding.
Kathleen M. White, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC is an associate professor and director for the master s program at The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
