About this Item
First Edition Proof Cloth. This is the Advance Reading Copy of this terrific book. The ARC is published before the First edition in very small quantities and is therefore always more rare than the first edition. This book is in the format of a large trade paperback and it is in fine condition but for the tiniest bit of shelfwear. A beautiful copy! This book is New and has never been read. It is in very fine condition and it makes a great presentation. The novel, which was a New York Times bestseller, is a true epic of the 'Fantastical'. At 782 pages this is a large volume. The year is 1806. England is at war with Napoleon and it has been hundreds of years since practical magic has faded into the nation's past. But scholars suddenly discover that one practicing magician still remains, the reclusive Mr. Norrell. Challenged to demonstrate his powers, Norrell causes the statues of York cathedral to speak and sing, raises a beautiful young woman from the dead, and enters the war, summoning an army of ghostly ships to terrify the French. Yet he is soon challenged by another magician, the brilliant novice Jonathan Strange. Norrell takes Strange on as a pupil but as the student's powers grow, so do his ambitions. This is a long and exciting story that really cannot be summed up easily in a description of this kind. Know that this is a genre changing book. It is very well written and will be thoroughly enjoyed by those who read it. Seller Inventory # 004225
