Legislative journal of the New York Assembly, the 32nd Session of the New York State Legislature. Dated November 1, 1808 through March 30, 1809, during the second year of Daniel D. Tompkins term as governor. In Gov. Tompkins' address to the Assembly dated November 1, 1808 he notes the meeting of the Legislature to elect presidential electors; decries the use of capital punishment; discusses the erection of the State Arsenal and fortifications and defense construction in New York City; and reiterates his support for keeping the US out of European "blood and warfare". Tompkins anticipated the War of 1812; as a war governor he is credited with effectively defending the borders of the state. Folio, 432pp, fold out chart, xix, Index. First edition, original stitch binding, uncut and untrimmed. Lacking the title page; front wrapper dusty and creased with period paper repair at left edge, rear cover chipped at edges but holding.
