About this Item
Octavo. Limited to 519 copies. The present copy is number 72. 273(1) pp. In manuscript form, this manuscript was one of the most significant Southey manuscripts to ever appear on the market. The manuscript was first sold by his son Charles to a bookseller in 1864, later it had gone to auction three times; 1970, 1982 and 2015. It was later published in 1902 into the present book form. Southey's journal was written while touring with his newly wed brother and his wife just a few weeks after the Battle of Waterloo. A beautiful copy designed by Bruce Rogers bound in 1/4 beige cloth over marbled paper covered boards, spine lettering gilt. A fine, unopened copy housed within the publisher's plain paper covered slipcase with paper label. [Frederic Ward p.54 (*30)]. Seller Inventory # 023246
